Germany’s new U-space concept will be tested in Hamburg

Droniq and DFS will test the German U-space concept at the Port of Hamburg.

The two companies will set up a U-space Sandbox in the Port of Hamburg. The project has a volume of around 1 million euros and is funded partly by the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI).

Drones are increasingly being used for commercial purposes, but such drone operations are not always feasible, especially in areas where numerous drones are deployed at the same time. U-spaces could enable the simultaneous and feasible operation of drones in urban areas as well. Testing Germany’s U-space concept in Hamburg can be the foundation for the implementation of further U-spaces in Germany, and it can contribute to the further development of the local drone market.
