NASA team joins Californian firefighters to examine the role of drones in firefighting operations

A team from NASA works on the Scalable Traffic Management for Emergency Response Operations (STEReO) project that aims to design software and communication tools to help first responders work more safely and efficiently.

As part of the STEReO project, the team examines the role of drones in efficient and safe firefighting operations. The thermal data collected by drones can help firefighters determine where fire-containment lines should be established and help them to carry out safe operations.

The STEReO team aims to solve location tracking and communication issues to enhance the information provided by drones.
