The FAA approves BVLOS flights using Skydio dock

| |

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) flights that enable BNSF Railway to carry out inspections using the drones of Skydio.

The dock-based Skydio 2 or Skydio X2 drones will be able to conduct automated inspections of construction sites or critical infrastructure. After completing their BVLOS operations, the drones will return to their base, which is equipped with charging capabilities and protects the drones from harsh weather conditions.

The approval will enable BNSF Railway to conduct BVLOS drone flights above its private property: 30 meters above the ground or obstacles and at least 5 km from airports.
