Isles of Scilly Steamship Company and Flylogix secured GBP 200 000 funding for drone trial

The Isles of Scilly have a population of around 2,200 people who rely entirely on air and sea links for their supplies. Last month, Royal Mail successfully tested package delivery to the isles airport. Now Flylogix and Isles of Scilly Steamship Company aim to test the drone delivery of medical supplies to the Scilly Isles.

The two companies have secured GBP200 000 grant funding to run a medical drone delivery test project. The three-month trial involves frequent daily drone flights between Land’s End Airport in West Cornwall to St Mary’s Airport on the Isles of Scilly. All flights will be continually monitored, with safety paramount.

Drone delivery could be an eco-friendly delivery solution as compared to manned aviation, it emits 98% less carbon dioxide.
